Hi, I’m Kerry and Gingerfields was born from my passion to create a wildlife haven and inspiring outdoor classroom for all to enjoy.
Purchased in 2012, the former hayfield located near the Medway Estuary in North Kent has since been converted to an organic smallholding. After much toil, I am pleased to welcome you to the kitchen garden, designed to cater to a range of interests from vegetable growing to natural dye-making. Whether it be through the tailored courses, workshops or volunteer days, the objective is the same for you to have fun and get inspired whilst gaining the knowledge to live more sustainably.

Whats in a name?
Naming is a simple task and yet I’ve never found it an easy one. Our sensory perception of the world is shared through language and any given word will induce a range of responses. Take the word Tequila. For me, I think YUCK, both for the taste and the maggot floating trendily in the bottle during the 90s. Others may feel nostalgia for the euphoria had on nights out and friends they bonded with over the toilet bowl. And then there are babies, not necessarily as a result of alcohol! What to name the little bundle of (poop and noise) joy? No one to my knowledge has ever named their child after their nemesis or Hitler?
So when my dream came true and my partner and I became the proud new owners of a plot of land, I wanted a name that was an ideal, a notion and a little bit of me and my friends.
